Urgent Message COVID-19 October 24, 2020

A number of confirmed coronavirus cases have been identified within Melbourne’s northern suburbs, including Dallas, Roxburgh Park, Fawkner, Broadmeadows, Preston and West Heidelberg.

In order to limit the potential spread of this outbreak, anyone who lives or works in these areas is being urged to get tested, even if they have the mildest of symptoms. Symptoms include:
•    Loss or change in sense of smell or taste
•    Fever
•    Chills or sweats
•    Cough
•    Sore throat
•    Shortness of breath
•    Runny nose
In certain circumstances headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea may also be symptoms.

What you can do to help

If any of your staff are experiencing any symptoms, please ask them to get tested.

Some schools in the area have also been identified as having had confirmed cases of coronavirus or close contacts attend onsite.

All families connected to East Preston Islamic College and Croxton School (Northcote), are asked get tested, even if they do not have symptoms, and stay at home until they get a negative result.

Both of these schools will be closed for 14 days.

We are asking any employers who know they have staff members connected to these schools to encourage them to get tested. This will help protect your workplace, staff and customers, and help prevent an outbreak in your business.

Sirius College (Meadow Fair campus), Ilim College, and Dallas Brooks Primary have also been identified as potential risk sites. Anyone who has visited these schools who is experiencing symptoms also needs to get tested and stay home.

Information on local testing sites is available from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)’s page on local outbreaks.

The coronavirus test is free and available to everyone. You do not need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Financial support is also available to help staff stay at home if they need to miss work. Please visit the DHHS website for more information.
