SRS APPEALS COURT DECISION

6 October 2010

TO ALL AMIEU MEMBERS AT SOMERVILLE RETAIL SERVICES

The Company has again applied to Fair Work Australia (Industrial Court) to try to overturn the decision of the Court to allow the Union access to your lunch room.

On Wednesday 29th September SRS applied to the Court for a stay on the decision to allow the Union access to the lunch room, but their application was denied.

Once again SRS is prepared to spend thousands of dollars to prevent its workers meeting Union representatives in a place that is convenient and accessible to employees. They wish to make it as difficult as possible for you to have discussions with the Union.

The Company is fearful that workers will unite through Union membership and become an organised force prepared to fight for higher wages and decent working conditions. They have already spent thousands of dollars and are prepared to spend thousands more to prevent Union access to the lunch room.

The Company’s Appeal will be heard by a Full Bench of Fair Work Australia on Wednesday 17th November.

In the meantime you can help make a difference to your working conditions by encouraging as many workers as possible to join the Union and become a loud voice for making a better workplace.
