Historic Meat Factory Goes Up In Flames

North Carolina USA - A fire broke out at the Spencer Packing Company in Chocowinity according to officials.

Several fire units were sent to the site where the century-old company, also known as Spencer Packing Company, is located. The facility, where the company makes sausage and pork products, may have been completely destroyed, according to local reports.

Owner Harold Spencer bought the building formerly known as the Washington Packing Company in 1998. The factory has been supplying pork products to surrounding counties since the 1940's.

Spencer said more than 15,000 pounds of pork was inside the factory at the time and luckily none of his employees had gotten to work yet.

Fire Chief Tommy Pendley said the cause is still under investigation but they believe it may be electrical that started in the attic.
