Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day Public Holidays

Public Holidays

All Full-Time and Part-Time team members are entitled to take Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Years Day off without loss of pay.

Work is voluntary on these days, as with all public holidays, under your Agreement.

You cannot be pressured or expected to work on a public holiday.

If you choose to work a public holiday, you will be paid at a rate of 250% for all hours worked.

Minimum Hours

The minimum hours the Company is obliged to give you if you choose to work on a public holiday is:

Full-Time Team Member       - 4 hours (Coles)    - 3 hours (Woolworths)

Part-Time &
Casual Team Member           - 3 hours (Coles)   - 3 hours (Woolworths)

Casual Team Members

Casual employees cannot be forced to work on a Public Holiday, as with any day off taken by a casual, you will not be paid for this day.

If you work you will be paid at a rate of 275% (Coles) and 270% (Woolworths) for all hours worked.

Non-Working Day Provisions

This year Christmas Day and Boxing Day is on Tuesday 25th December and Wednesday 26th December. New Years Day is Tuesday 1st January.

Under your current Agreement all Full-Time team members, who are not rostered to work on Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th, or Tuesday 1st January will receive:

  • An additional day off (time in lieu);
  • A day added to their annual leave;
  • Or an additional days wages at your normal rate of pay for each public holiday.

Examples:

  1. If you work a Wednesday to Sunday roster you will be entitled to an additional day in lieu for Tuesday 25th December and Tuesday 1st January
  2. If you work a Thursday to Monday roster, you will be entitled to an additional day in lieu for Tuesday 25th Dec, Wednesday 26th Dec and Tuesday 1st January
  3. If you work a Friday to Tuesday roster, you will be entitled to an additional day in lieu for Wednesday 26th December
