Fair Work Laws get through Parliament

After more than four years of concerted campaigning by unions, activists and the community, we have achieved a new set of laws to replace WorkChoices.

Late last Friday, the Senate voted to pass the Labor Government’s Fair Work Bill. The final bill included some amendments needed to get the laws through the Senate  but the basic architecture of the laws  which will replace WorkChoices and restore workers' rights are intact.

We note that there are many things we still have to fight for:

• Abolish the ABCC
  
• Paid Maternity Leave
  
• The Highest Standards for Protection of Workers' Health and Safety
